Our Mission
At Veritas Biblia Press, we are dedicated to the faithful restoration of Scripture to its original linguistic, historical, and theological context.
The Bible Restoration Project arose from the recognition that one of the most consequential semantic shifts in biblical history—the emergence of the English term “Jew” and its related forms—has profoundly shaped how generations have read and understood Scripture.
In the original languages of Scripture, identities such as Hebrew, Israelite, Judahite, and Judaean each carried distinct covenantal, genealogical, and regional meanings. But in early English, before the letter J became standardized, translators rendered Judahite (one of Judah) and Judaean (one of Judaea) as Iewes, later spelled Jews—a word already colored by the presence of self-identified Rabbinic Jews dispersed throughout medieval Christian Europe.
It was the closest term available within the limits of early English, yet far broader than the contextual identities found in Scripture. Over time, this single post-biblical term “Jew” subsumed all of these identities, collapsing them into an ethnoreligious concept foreign to the biblical world.
Through careful philological and contextual analysis, we work to recover these distinctions and render them faithfully from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
The Contextual Restoration Edition (CRE)
The Contextual Restoration Edition recovers the historical and linguistic context of Scripture by replacing the post-biblical term “Jew” with “Judahite” in the Old Testament and “Judaean” in the New Testament, retaining the later term only where the text properly refers to those who opposed Christ or represented the Rabbinic sects of the era.
The CRE reestablishes each term’s proper sense within its original setting, allowing Scripture to be encountered with renewed clarity and contextual accuracy.
The Restoration Edition (RE)
The Restoration Edition restores the linguistic fidelity of Scripture by replacing the anachronism “Jew” entirely with “Judahite” in the Old Testament and “Judaean” in the New Testament—without exception—ensuring that every occurrence reflects the true historical categories of antiquity.
The RE presents a comprehensive realization of the Bible Restoration Project: restoring Scripture to its authentic historical meaning and freeing it from the distortions introduced by later linguistic development.
Why Restoration Matters
Translation is never neutral.
Across centuries, evolving language and interpretive frameworks have reshaped how readers perceive the people, covenants, and theology of the Bible.
When the distinct ancient identities of Judahite and Judaean were collapsed into the later term Jew, vital contextual truths were lost.
By restoring these distinctions, Veritas Biblia Press seeks to recover the original historical and theological context of the sacred text—illuminating what Scripture truly said, not merely how later tradition remembered it.
This work is not revision, but restoration—a return to the living Word as it was first spoken, heard, and received.
